Ceremony of Remembrance and Renewal
The annual Ceremony of Remembrance and Renewal:
On Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at 5:00 PM, the Valley of Wilmington, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry will conduct The Ceremony of Remembrance & Renewal, in addition the event will feature a special presentation by “Pontius Pilate”.
Members and the public are invited to attend The Ceremony of Remembrance and Renewal. The purpose of the ceremony is to acknowledge & reflect upon the memory of our brethren who have passed away within the last year and to renew our enthusiasm for the principles of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. These individuals are our Brethren with whom we have shared the beauty and grandeur of Masonry. The reading of their names is reminiscent of an ancient Sanskrit injunction: “Lead us from the unreal to the real, from darkness to light, from death to immortality”. As Masons, we are traveling together on a mystic journey, a journey toward greater and greater “Light”. The Ceremony of Remembrance and Renewal, including the Mystic Banquet, is not a religious observance.
Conducting the ceremony will be Ernest Steve Bland, 32°, Knight Commander Court of Honor, Wise Master of the Chapter of Rose Croix. We also commemorate the lives of all those who labored to improve mankind and were rewarded with betrayal, punishment, and death. Whether poet, religious leader, scientist, or social reformer, all who seek to elevate humankind may be considered as Brethren. Masonry is duty, and its practice, often fraught with personal sacrifice, requires the performance of duty for the good of humanity.
A catered meal will be served, donations to offset the cost of the meal will be greatfully appreciated. Reservations are required by Monday, April 10, 2017, contact the Wilmington Scottish Rite Office 910-762-6452.
